Welcome to 狸 tanuki cafe & dining, a charming café nestled in the heart of Nozawa Onsen, Nagano. This delightful spot is more than just a place to grab a coffee; it’s a warm embrace for your taste buds and a sanctuary for your soul, especially after a long day on the nearby slopes.

As soon as you step inside, you are greeted by an inviting atmosphere—natural wood accents, soft lighting, and the delightful aroma of freshly baked goods fill the air. Whether you are here for breakfast, lunch, or an afternoon snack, Tanuki Café offers a cozy environment where friendly smiles and attentive service instantly make you feel at home. The early opening hours make it the perfect pitstop for early risers eager to seize the day on the slopes.

The café boasts an enticing menu, featuring some local favorites that will make your mouth water. Indulge in their French Toast with Apple Jam, which dazzles with its fluffy texture and subtly sweet apple topping—an absolute must-try that has garnered rave reviews. If you're craving something savory, don’t miss their Eggs Benedict adorned with crispy potatoes that crunch delectably with every bite. Pair it with a cup of their expertly crafted coffee, renowned for its smoothness and beautifully presented latte art; you might just find it to be one of the best you’ve ever had!

Customers rave about their experiences at Tanuki Café. Chris Ell, for instance, reminisces about the superior quality of American bacon, highlighting the café’s ability to serve crispy, smoky, and sweet options that truly elevate any breakfast. Hn Ts mentioned the “best breakfast ever,” where even the pickiest eaters were satisfied—a testament to the café's versatility and quality. Meanwhile, Francisco Plohn was enamored by the freshness of the dishes and specifically noted the perfect balance of flavors in their scrambled eggs on sourdough paired with juicy tomatoes.

However, not every experience is flawless; some visitors, like Thai T, noted the limited dinner set menus and the additional costs for certain items. Yet, even this was overshadowed by the exemplary service and the cafe's commitment to quality.

In summary, whether you are looking to fuel up with a hearty breakfast or enjoy a leisurely lunch with friends and family, 狸 tanuki cafe & dining is the ideal destination. Its essence lies in the quality ingredients, the spectacular taste that keeps you coming back for more, and the warmth of its staff. Why is American bacon so much better than everywhere else? American bacon is crispy, smoky, sweet, fatty. What’s served elsewhere is usually lean, chewy, pink; more ham than bacon. It misses that, that crunch of salt and sugar that defined the BLT in the first place. Bacon should be black and crispy and shatter the second you bite into it. The BLT came from America, you know, if you don’t believe me you can look it up. Don’t sell me a BLT and give me a ham sandwich.

Best breakfast ever! Best smiles and service. Kids and husband picky eaters and we were all more than happy with the food. Ate all our breakfast here. Kids and husband went skiing all day while I worked at the cafe as they have WiFi and lots of yummy food and snacks The bakery next door - make sure to get the sourdough bread it is like cloud even though it’s sourdough - same bread as breakfast Lunchtime they have savory and also sweet pies - watch out for the best chocolate chip cookies too good Cafe also has a 2 seat spot outside with heating which I loved for some breaks to get some sun while sipping my tea Special shout out to Shayde and Tizian and all the wonderful staff there - thank you very much for having us

Nice bread! Love the french toast with apple jam! Great coffee too. Good service by crew. We had it for breakfast before skiing. Opens early which is great.

I had such a great time at Tanuki Café and Dining in Nozawa Onsen! The food was amazing—everything was super fresh and full of flavor. The Eggs Benedict with crispy potatoes was perfection, and the scrambled eggs on sourdough with those juicy tomatoes were just what I needed. The coffee was also spot on—smooth, creamy, and with some beautiful latte art. Definitely one of the best lattes I’ve had in a while! The vibe of the place is really cozy and chill, perfect for relaxing after being out in the snow. And the staff? So friendly and welcoming—they made the whole experience even better. If you’re in Nozawa Onsen, I’d 100% recommend stopping by. Great food, great coffee, and an all-around awesome experience!

Came here for dinner. They only have set menus in the evening which is a shame but i can understand. I was hoping it be good but the meals were so so. Portions small for the price but cant fault their service. Do have a gripe that half of their menu items costed extra to order above the set menu price.

We sat by the window at the entrance. It’s better if you like a good view of people passing by the Village. The atmosphere was good and staff are very friendly and nice. Unfortunately when we were there, they only served pastries and drinks. I had matcha latte, oat cookies (tastes great), yuzu cheese cake (so-so).
